1-min Guitar Finger Excercise That Improves Dexterity And Range Of Motion

1-min exercise improves finger dexterity and range of motion

Fretting your guitar can be a daunting task. Trying to play chords or scales with any degree of accuracy is like trying to make sense out of a jumble puzzle. You have strings that are too close together, frets that are not round enough and chord shapes without any room for the fingers to go in between them.

If your fingers feel stiff, and you have a hard time reaching notes across the fretboard…

There’s a simple exercise you can do to not only improve your strength and range of motion, but also your overall hand dexterity.

Meaning you’ll be able to stretch to further notes easier, and have better precision while doing so.

Even better? This guitar finger exercise only takes a single minute to do and doesn’t require any fancy finger stretching gizmos or “gripper” gadgets.

Alright, ready for the guitar dexterity exercise?

All you have to do is go grab a tennis ball. Wrap your left hand around it. And squeeze until you feel a little give in the ball. Then hold that for as long as you can, or 30 seconds MAX (either, or). Finally, switch to the right hand, and squeeze for another 30 seconds, max.

And that’s it! It’s resistance training for your hands.

This exercise, although super simple, will help build flexibility AND strength — exactly what you need to stretch further across the neck, and hit notes hard enough (even with your pinky) so they don’t buzz.

(And if you don’t have a tennis ball around your house, you could ball up a thick washcloth. It probably won’t be as good as a tennis ball, but it will accomplish generally the same thing.)

Anyways, try it out for a few days and see how much stronger your hands feel.
